Whoa! I had a major flashback tonight. Sid, who is going through a nostalgic phase, likes to sit in bed with the laptop, cruising the internet, while he waits for me to come to bed. He pulled up a song on youtube that I havn’t heard in years and had completely wiped from memory. Which is a shame because it is a pretty good song.
Read over the lyrics. The first person to name the song title and singer gets . . . . . gets. . . . . .ummm . . . . . my top ten list of favorite books ever.
I’m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It’s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .
Have you guessed it yet? No? Read on . . . . . . . . . . .
As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin’ My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer’s Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man’s Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya’ Know
‘Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That’s Why I Want You To
Know
Have you got it now? You probably know it, but I’m including the next stanza because it is good writing for a song coming out of this particular decade.
I’ve Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It’s Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They’re Not
Alone?
A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody’s Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya’ See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be
That’s Why I’m Starting With
Me
(Starting With Me!)
I just don’t get the “Willow deeply scarred” part. Call me shallow or uninformed, even question my intelligence, but please, please don’t leave me in the dark. Please tell me what that part means. I won’t sleep peacefully, and the tune will play over and over again in my head, worrying over that particular phrase, trying to decipher the deep meaning there that eludes me. I hate it when something eludes me.
If you are in a nostalgic mood, you can hear the song here. And if you are a young whipper-snapper, too young to know this song, well, there is a major hole in your cultural education that will never be filled until you listen to this song. Not really. But kind of really.
WARNING: you may find some of the picture objectionable, so you can play and then minimize the window to hear the song but not see sad pictures.
