Sidney is always asking for something to hand sew, which he says is wayyyyyyy more fun than machine sewing. When I saw these adorable little bird ornaments, I knew we had to try it.
Sidney and Lincoln selected 2 colors each for their bird. I helped cut the fabric, gave them needles and thread and away they went. From this one simple little pattern, the boys learned how to cut out a pattern on the fold, about seams and seam allowances, got practice “eyeballing” a seam, got firsthand experience with sewing right sides together and turning inside out. The birds went together fairly quickly, so the boys didn’t get discouraged. One of the few times when instant gratification is a GOOD thing.
