Where’s the beef?

It’s in my freezer.

Correction.  The whole cotton-pickin’ cow is in my freezer.

The only beef I have ever cooked is ground beef and roast.

Now, we’ve got sirloin, T-bone steak, stew beef — all sorts of cuts that I only have a dim idea what to do with.  And other cuts — “beef for boiling” —– that I will definitely be calling my sister-in-law to walk me through half a dozen times.

I’m guessing I can put the sirloin and T-bone on the grill.  But I don’t know how to grill.  I’m betting I won’t have to learn either.  Sid is so eager to eat a grilled steak that he will probably get tired of waiting for me to get brave and just do it himself.

You know, if I was a manipulative sort of woman, I could use this to my advantage.  Manipulative is sneaky, right?  So if I blog about it and get it all out there in open, where my husband could read about it, then it is not sneaky or manipulative, right?

But just in case, I’ll be real, real clear about this —-

“Honey, I am kind of intimidated by the whole grilling thing and the steak thing.  I would get around to trying it eventually, but probably not quickly enough to appease your steak craving.  You will likely jump in and grill a steak first, at which point, I will lose all motivation to learn how to grill a steak, because I know I can depend on you to do it for me.

After that, you might hear me say ‘Honey, how about a steak tonight?’ which effectively puts supper duty that night on you.

I’m just telling it to you straight, Honey.  The temptation to use and abuse your grilling experience will be very great.  You may want to lay low and wait for me to get up the gumption to put that sirloin on the grill myself.

I might get around to it next month.

Or the month after, if I get real busy with other heavy responsibilities.

Of course, we do have a LOT of ground beef and roast that should be used up first.  Maybe we should save those steaks for . . . . . . . . . . . .”

  1. I’m glad you made it. Mama told me that you had gone up and I was a little worried as I had forgotten to send you directions. But I guess you called ahead and asked? Hope you had a good trip.
