Sid came home early at 4 o’clock today. The children were preoccupied upstairs and didn’t immediately notice his arrival, so for a few minutes, I had him all to myself.
I gave him a big hug and held on, enjoying the peace and simple pleasure of the moment.
Then the other 2 females in the house found us —
“Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!”
“Daddy’s home! Come on, Daddy. Can I go with yuuuuu?”
In a quietly commanding voice, Sid says, “Wait a minute, girls. I am hugging My Lady.”
“I’m a lady, Daddy. Hug me, hug me,” says the 5-year-old.
“You are A lady, but you are not The Lady,” he says.
“I’m not a lady,” declares the 3-year-old. “I’m cute.”
Humility is not Prairie’s strongest attribute.
